The United Arab Emirates (-13.0%) and Israel (-27.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Overall, imports recorded a mild curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 43% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, invalid carriage imports reduced dramatically to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 32%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, Turkey (X units), Iraq (X units), the United Arab Emirates (X units) and Israel (X units) represented the major importer of invalid carriages not mechanically propelled in the Middle East, achieving 71% of total import. Kuwait (X units) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 5.3% share, followed by Yemen (4.7%). Oman (X units), Qatar (X units) and Iran (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

In 2022, the import price in the Middle East amounted to $X per unit, rising by 7.6% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.7%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 19%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Qatar ($X per unit), while Iraq ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
