Market Size for Iodine, Fluorine And Bromine in the Middle East
In 2021, the Middle Eastern iodine, fluorine and bromine market decreased by -24.6% to $X for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year rising trend. In general, consumption, however, saw buoyant growth. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2020, and then contracted rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, iodine, fluorine and bromine production reduced to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. The total production indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, production increased by +56.1% against 2012 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the production volume increased by 26% against the previous year. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X, and then fell in the following year.

Exports in the Middle East
In 2021, overseas shipments of iodine, fluorine and bromine were finally on the rise to reach X tons after three years of decline. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 37% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, iodine, fluorine and bromine exports shrank to $X in 2021. Overall, exports continue to indicate a strong expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 51%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2020, and then dropped in the following year.
Exports by Country
Israel prevails in exports structure, reaching X tons, which was near 92% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Jordan (X tons), making up a 6.6% share of total exports.
Israel was also the fastest-growing in terms of the iodine, fluorine and bromine exports, with a CAGR of +1.0% from 2012 to 2021. Jordan (-20.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Israel increased by +29 percentage points.
In value terms, Israel ($X) remains the largest iodine, fluorine and bromine supplier in the Middle East, comprising 77% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Jordan ($X), with a 14% share of total exports.
In Israel, iodine, fluorine and bromine exports expanded at an average annual rate of +8.0% over the period from 2012-2021.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in the Middle East stood at $X per ton in 2021, with a decrease of -22.9% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 49% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton, and then reduced remarkably in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Jordan ($X per ton), while Israel totaled $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Jordan (+20.1%).

Imports in the Middle East
Iodine, fluorine and bromine imports contracted significantly to X tons in 2021, waning by -21.4% against the previous year. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 314% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2020, and then dropped markedly in the following year.
In value terms, iodine, fluorine and bromine imports shrank markedly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 76% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2020, and then dropped dramatically in the following year.
Imports by Country
Saudi Arabia prevails in imports structure, resulting at X tons, which was near 87% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Iran (X tons), constituting a 9.1% share of total imports. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) held a little share of total imports.
Saudi Arabia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the iodine, fluorine and bromine imports, with a CAGR of +65.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Iran (+39.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, the United Arab Emirates (-5.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Saudi Arabia (+79 p.p.) and Iran (+5.4 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of the United Arab Emirates (-30.3 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, Saudi Arabia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported iodine, fluorine and bromine in the Middle East, comprising 62% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Iran ($X), with a 19% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Saudi Arabia totaled +30.9%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Iran (+12.7% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (-9.6% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in the Middle East stood at $X per ton in 2021, falling by -37.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a deep contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the import price increased by 80%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while Saudi Arabia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (-4.5%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
