Turkey was also the fastest-growing in terms of the iron or steel cans exports, with a CAGR of +16.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Jordan (+9.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, the United Arab Emirates (-4.2%) and Saudi Arabia (-6.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Turkey increased by +45 percentage points. In 2021, the export price in the Middle East amounted to $X per unit, growing by 10% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.7%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Jordan ($X per unit), while Saudi Arabia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in supplies from abroad of iron or steel cans, when their volume increased by 19% to X units. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 19% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, iron or steel can imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of import peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

The United Arab Emirates (X units) and Iraq (X units) were the main importers of iron or steel cans in 2021, accounting for near 21% and 19% of total imports, respectively. Oman (X units) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 12% share, followed by Kuwait (8.4%), Lebanon (7.9%), Jordan (6.7%), Bahrain (6.7%) and Syrian Arab Republic (5.2%). Palestine (X units) held a minor share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Iraq (with a CAGR of +32.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X), Iraq ($X) and Oman ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 40% share of total imports.
Iraq, with a CAGR of +36.0%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in the Middle East stood at $X per unit in 2021, picking up by 3.5% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.2%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when the import price increased by 19%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per unit in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Lebanon ($X per unit), while Syrian Arab Republic ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
