Turkey (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons) prevails in exports structure, together mixing up 89% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Israel (X tons), comprising a 5.4% share of total exports. The following exporters - Lebanon (X tons) and Saudi Arabia (X tons) - each reached a 3.9% share of total exports.

In value terms, the largest paper label supplying countries in the Middle East were Turkey ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and Israel ($X), together accounting for 94% of total exports.

In 2021, the amount of labels of paper or paperboard imported in the Middle East soared to X tons, with an increase of 30% compared with 2020 figures. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 24% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Saudi Arabia (X tons) represented the main importer of labels of paper or paperboard, committing 29% of total imports. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 14% share, followed by Jordan (9.4%), Iraq (8.9%), Iran (8.4%), Turkey (7.3%) and Oman (5%).
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to paper label imports into Saudi Arabia stood at +16.7%. At the same time, Iraq (+17.0%), Jordan (+11.2%) and Oman (+2.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Iraq emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the Middle East, with a CAGR of +17.0% from 2012-2021. By contrast, the United Arab Emirates (-1.9%), Turkey (-2.0%) and Iran (-2.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Saudi Arabia (+19 p.p.), Iraq (+5.7 p.p.) and Jordan (+4.1 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Turkey (-5.6 p.p.), Iran (-6.5 p.p.) and the United Arab Emirates (-10.6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the largest paper label importing markets in the Middle East were Turkey ($X), Jordan ($X) and Saudi Arabia ($X), with a combined 56% share of total imports. These countries were followed by the United Arab Emirates, Iraq, Iran and Oman, which together accounted for a further 27%.
Iraq, with a CAGR of +16.1%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in the Middle East amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -6.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 19%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per ton), while Iran ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
