The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 429%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2020, and then fell in the following year.

Exports by Country

In 2021, Saudi Arabia (X tons) was the main exporter of manganites, manganates and permanganates, molybdates and tungstates, committing 50% of total exports. Turkey (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Iran (X tons) and Israel (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 47% share of total exports. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Saudi Arabia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the manganites, manganates and permanganates, molybdates and tungstates exports, with a CAGR of +24.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Israel (+9.0%) and Turkey (+3.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Iran experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, the United Arab Emirates (-15.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Saudi Arabia (+38 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Turkey (-7.8 p.p.), Iran (-14.2 p.p.) and the United Arab Emirates (-17.1 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Saudi Arabia ($X) remains the largest manganites, manganates, molybdates and tungstates supplier in the Middle East, comprising 50% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Turkey ($X), with a 25% share of total exports. It was followed by Israel, with a 9.2% share.

In Saudi Arabia, manganites, manganates, molybdates and tungstates exports expanded at an average annual rate of +21.7% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Turkey (+12.6% per year) and Israel (+10.8% per year).

In 2021, the export price in the Middle East amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 7% against the previous year. In 2021, overseas purchases of manganites, manganates and permanganates, molybdates and tungstates decreased by -21.7% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. In general, imports showed a abrupt curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 67% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, manganites, manganates, molybdates and tungstates imports rose sharply to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports recorded a deep downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 41% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Iran was the largest importer of manganites, manganates and permanganates, molybdates and tungstates in the Middle East, with the volume of imports amounting to X tons, which was near 62% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Turkey (X tons), making up a 30% share of total imports. Israel (X tons) and Kuwait (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Iran ($X), Turkey ($X) and Kuwait ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 86% share of total imports.

Kuwait, with a CAGR of +43.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in the Middle East amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 34% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.0%. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
