In general, the yield, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when the yield increased by 3.5%. Over the period under review, the mango and mangosteen yield hit record highs at X tons per ha in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the yield failed to regain momentum. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.

The mango and mangosteen harvested area totaled X ha in 2022, approximately reflecting 2021. The harvested area increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 5.8%. The level of harvested area peaked at X ha in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the harvested area stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, shipments abroad of mangoes, mangosteens and guavas decreased by -17.5% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate measured growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 65%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons, and then fell dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, mango and mangosteen exports contracted sharply to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed a prominent expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 81% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then shrank rapidly in the following year.

Yemen was the main exporting country with an export of about X tons, which reached 64% of total exports. Israel (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by the United Arab Emirates (X tons). All these countries together held near 34% share of total exports. Exports from Yemen increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, the United Arab Emirates (+3.5%) and Israel (+2.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the United Arab Emirates emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the Middle East, with a CAGR of +3.5% from 2012-2022. In value terms, Yemen ($X), Israel ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, together comprising 95% of total exports.

In 2022, the export price in the Middle East amounted to $X per ton, waning by -2.3% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.8%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the export price increased by 28% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2020 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Israel ($X per ton), while Yemen ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

After three years of growth, supplies from abroad of mangoes, mangosteens and guavas decreased by -9.5% to X tons in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 17% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, mango and mangosteen imports fell to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 23% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then contracted in the following year.

Imports by Country

The United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Saudi Arabia (X tons) represented roughly 65% of total imports in 2022. Oman (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 9.7% share, followed by Yemen (6.1%) and Kuwait (5.9%). The following importers - Qatar (X tons) and Bahrain (X tons) - each amounted to a 7.5% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Qatar (with a CAGR of +8.5%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X), Saudi Arabia ($X) and Oman ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 64% share of total imports. Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain and Yemen lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 23%.

Qatar, with a CAGR of +11.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in the Middle East amounted to $X per ton, leveling off at the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.0%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 23% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
