Turkey was also the fastest-growing in terms of the MDF exports, with a CAGR of +18.4% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, the United Arab Emirates (+3.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Turkey increased by +7.9 percentage points.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest MDF supplier in the Middle East, comprising 96% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 2.7% share of total exports.

In Turkey, MDF exports increased at an average annual rate of +14.6% over the period from 2012-2021.

The export price in the Middle East stood at $X per cubic meter in 2021, increasing by 28% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a noticeable curtailment. The level of export peaked at $X per cubic meter in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per cubic meter), while the United Arab Emirates stood at $X per cubic meter.

In 2021, purchases abroad of MDF increased by 10% to X cubic meters, rising for the second year in a row after three years of decline. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 17%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X cubic meters in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, MDF imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a slight shrinkage. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

The United Arab Emirates was the main importing country with an import of around X cubic meters, which reached 39% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Saudi Arabia (X cubic meters), Iran (X cubic meters) and Iraq (X cubic meters), together committing a 40% share of total imports. Israel (X cubic meters), Oman (X cubic meters), Kuwait (X cubic meters), Syrian Arab Republic (X cubic meters), Lebanon (X cubic meters) and Qatar (X cubic meters) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Oman (with a CAGR of +13.0%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest MDF importing markets in the Middle East were the United Arab Emirates ($X), Saudi Arabia ($X) and Israel ($X), with a combined 65% share of total imports. Iraq, Iran, Oman, Kuwait, Lebanon, Syrian Arab Republic and Qatar lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 29%.

Oman, with a CAGR of +10.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in the Middle East stood at $X per cubic meter in 2021, increasing by 11% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a pronounced curtailment. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per cubic meter in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Israel ($X per cubic meter), while the United Arab Emirates ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Israel (+1.5%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
