While the share of Saudi Arabia (+11 p.p.), Turkey (+9.5 p.p.), the United Arab Emirates (+6.9 p.p.), Israel (+6.5 p.p.), Kuwait (+3.1 p.p.) and Iraq (+2.2 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Qatar (-36 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, Turkey ($X), Saudi Arabia ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 68% of total imports. Israel, Iraq, Kuwait and Qatar lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 16%.
Israel, with a CAGR of +3.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in the Middle East amounted to $X per unit, rising by 42% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate notable growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the import price increased by 170%. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per unit), while Qatar ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
