In 2022, purchases abroad of mounted lenses, prisms and mirrors decreased by -47.3% to X units, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Overall, imports, however, posted a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 56% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, mounted lens imports rose modestly to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed prominent growth. In 2022, Oman (X units) represented the largest importer of mounted lenses, prisms and mirrors, committing 64% of total imports. The United Arab Emirates (X units) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Yemen (X units). All these countries together took near 20% share of total imports. Iran (X units), Kuwait (X units), Lebanon (X units) and Jordan (X units) held a little share of total imports.

By contrast, Yemen (-4.4%) and the United Arab Emirates (-46.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Oman, the United Arab Emirates, Yemen, Iran, Kuwait and Lebanon increased by +63, +9.8, +8, +3.2, +2.3 and +1.9 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported mounted lenses, prisms and mirrors in the Middle East, comprising 51% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Iran ($X), with a 0.4% share of total imports. It was followed by Oman, with a 0.3% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in the United Arab Emirates amounted to +41.6%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Iran (-9.6% per year) and Oman (-5.5% per year).
