Soft Drink Market Size in the Middle East
In 2021, after nine years of growth, there was decline in the Middle Eastern soft drink market, when its value decreased by -4.3% to $X. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the market value increased by 8.7% against the previous year. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X, and then shrank in the following year.
Soft Drink Production in the Middle East
In value terms, soft drink production contracted to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. The total output value increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 12%. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X, and then declined in the following year.

Exports in the Middle East
In 2021, exports of soft drinks in the Middle East declined to X litres, shrinking by -8.3% on the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when exports increased by 24% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X litres. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, soft drink exports fell to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 22%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Turkey was the key exporter of soft drinks in the Middle East, with the volume of exports resulting at X litres, which was approx. 47% of total exports in 2021. Saudi Arabia (X litres) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by the United Arab Emirates (X litres) and Kuwait (X litres). All these countries together held approx. 39% share of total exports. The following exporters - Lebanon (X litres), Oman (X litres) and Jordan (X litres) - together made up 8.9% of total exports.
Exports from Turkey increased at an average annual rate of +11.8% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Kuwait (+31.3%) and Oman (+8.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kuwait emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the Middle East, with a CAGR of +31.3% from 2012-2021. By contrast, the United Arab Emirates (-2.5%), Lebanon (-3.9%), Saudi Arabia (-8.2%) and Jordan (-11.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Turkey (+29 p.p.) and Kuwait (+5.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Lebanon, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan and Saudi Arabia saw its share reduced by -1.8%, -4%, -5.3% and -25.2% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Turkey ($X), Saudi Arabia ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 77% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Lebanon, Kuwait, Jordan and Oman, which together accounted for a further 16%.
Kuwait, with a CAGR of +28.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in the Middle East stood at $X per litre in 2021, rising by 1.7% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.1%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the export price increased by 22%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Lebanon ($X per litre), while Kuwait ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Jordan (+12.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in the Middle East
In 2021, approx. X litres of soft drinks were imported in the Middle East; with a decrease of -11.6% on the year before. Overall, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 8.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X litres in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, soft drink imports totaled $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 11% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Saudi Arabia (X litres), followed by the United Arab Emirates (X litres), Israel (X litres), Turkey (X litres), Yemen (X litres), Jordan (X litres), Palestine (X litres), Syrian Arab Republic (X litres), Kuwait (X litres), Iraq (X litres) and Qatar (X litres) were the largest importers of soft drinks, together comprising 88% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Syrian Arab Republic (with a CAGR of +24.4%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest soft drink importing markets in the Middle East were the United Arab Emirates ($X), Turkey ($X) and Israel ($X), with a combined 38% share of total imports. Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Palestine, Yemen, Jordan, Iraq, Qatar and Syrian Arab Republic lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 52%.
In terms of the main importing countries, Syrian Arab Republic, with a CAGR of +23.2%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in the Middle East amounted to $X per litre, surging by 14% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.5%. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Kuwait ($X per litre), while Syrian Arab Republic ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Iraq (+11.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
