In 2021, Turkey (X tons) was the major exporter of nucleic acids and their salts, committing 52% of total exports. Israel (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by the United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Saudi Arabia (X tons). All these countries together took near 47% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Saudi Arabia (with a CAGR of +25.6%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.
In value terms, Israel ($X) remains the largest nucleic acid supplier in the Middle East, comprising 66% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 17% share of total exports. It was followed by Turkey, with a 14% share.

Total imports indicated tangible growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +12.6% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 50% against the previous year. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 56% against the previous year. In 2021, Turkey (X tons) was the main importer of nucleic acids and their salts, mixing up 62% of total imports. Israel (X tons) held an 11% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by the United Arab Emirates (8.9%) and Iran (7.8%). Saudi Arabia (X tons) and Jordan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to nucleic acid imports into Turkey stood at +11.6%. At the same time, the United Arab Emirates (+20.6%) and Jordan (+7.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Turkey ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported nucleic acids and their salts in the Middle East, comprising 59% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Israel ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates, with a 13% share.
In Turkey, nucleic acid imports increased at an average annual rate of +10.3% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Israel (-9.0% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (+28.3% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in the Middle East stood at $X per ton in 2021, approximately mirroring the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern.
