Office Supply Market Size in the Middle East

After three years of decline, the Middle Eastern office supply market increased by 3.8% to $X in 2022. The total consumption indicated slight growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the last decade. In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest office supply supplier in the Middle East, comprising 78% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 13% share of total exports.

In Turkey, office supply exports shrank by an average annual rate of -1.6% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the United Arab Emirates (-5.3% per year) and Oman (+9.4% per year).

In 2022, the export price in the Middle East amounted to $X per ton, surging by 1.6% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, the United Arab Emirates (X tons), distantly followed by Iraq (X tons), Qatar (X tons), Oman (X tons), Israel (X tons) and Kuwait (X tons) were the major importers of office or school supplies of plastics, together generating 77% of total imports. Bahrain (X tons), Iran (X tons), Yemen (X tons), Turkey (X tons), Syrian Arab Republic (X tons) and Jordan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Israel (with a CAGR of +4.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X), Israel ($X) and Iraq ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 52% of total imports. Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Turkey, Iran, Yemen, Bahrain, Jordan and Syrian Arab Republic lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 45%.

Among the main importing countries, Syrian Arab Republic, with a CAGR of +6.2%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in the Middle East stood at $X per ton in 2022, picking up by 7.4% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.8%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the import price increased by 10%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Kuwait ($X per ton), while Oman ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
