In 2022, the amount of optical fiber cables exported in the Middle East surged to X tons, with an increase of 27% on the previous year. Overall, exports enjoyed a resilient expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 88%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, optical fiber cables exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports saw prominent growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by 53%. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In 2022, Turkey (X tons) represented the major exporter of optical fiber cables, generating 51% of total exports. Israel (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Saudi Arabia (X tons). All these countries together took near 40% share of total exports. The following exporters - the United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Oman (X tons) - each resulted at a 7.4% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to optical fiber cables exports from Turkey stood at +6.0%. At the same time, Saudi Arabia (+18.2%), Israel (+9.1%), Oman (+4.5%) and the United Arab Emirates (+3.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Saudi Arabia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the Middle East, with a CAGR of +18.2% from 2012-2022. While the share of Saudi Arabia (+12 p.p.) and Israel (+2.3 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of the United Arab Emirates (-1.7 p.p.) and Turkey (-9.2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Turkey ($X), Israel ($X) and Saudi Arabia ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, together accounting for 93% of total exports.

Among the main exporting countries, Saudi Arabia, with a CAGR of +15.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in the Middle East stood at $X per ton in 2022, picking up by 9.8% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Israel ($X per ton), while Saudi Arabia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+1.0%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of optical fiber cables, when their volume decreased by -5.6% to X tons. Total imports indicated a perceptible increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +30.5% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 36% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, optical fiber cables imports dropped to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 36% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The countries with the highest levels of optical fiber cables imports in 2022 were the United Arab Emirates (X tons), Israel (X tons) and Saudi Arabia (X tons), together reaching 57% of total import. Turkey (X tons) took the next position in the ranking, followed by Iraq (X tons), Oman (X tons), Bahrain (X tons) and Jordan (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 34% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Jordan (with a CAGR of +23.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X), Saudi Arabia ($X) and Israel ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 64% of total imports. Turkey, Iraq, Oman, Jordan and Bahrain lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 27%.

Among the main importing countries, Jordan, with a CAGR of +20.3%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in the Middle East amounted to $X per ton, stabilizing at the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a slight decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 23% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2020 to 2022, the import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per ton), while Bahrain ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Saudi Arabia (+0.5%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
