Peach And Nectarine Market Size in the Middle East

After four years of growth, the Middle Eastern peach and nectarine market decreased by -1.6% to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, consumption, however, saw a mild expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 36%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, peach and nectarine exports expanded rapidly to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +25.0% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 62% against the previous year. In 2021, Turkey (X tons) represented the major exporter of peaches and nectarines, constituting 70% of total exports. Jordan (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 16% share, followed by Lebanon (7%). The following exporters - Iran (X tons) and Israel (X tons) - each finished at a 4.3% share of total exports.

Exports from Turkey increased at an average annual rate of +16.5% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Iran (+48.4%) and Lebanon (+16.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Iran emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the Middle East, with a CAGR of +48.4% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Israel (-1.8%) and Jordan (-2.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Turkey (+29 p.p.), Lebanon (+2.9 p.p.) and Iran (+2.2 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Israel (-3.4 p.p.) and Jordan (-28.7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest peach and nectarine supplier in the Middle East, comprising 75% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Jordan ($X), with a 13% share of total exports. It was followed by Lebanon, with a 3.4% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Turkey amounted to +22.1%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Jordan (-12.3% per year) and Lebanon (+16.1% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in the Middle East amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 10% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a perceptible decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when the export price increased by 31%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Imports in the Middle East

After two years of decline, supplies from abroad of peaches and nectarines increased by 4.7% to X tons in 2021. Total imports indicated notable growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -15.7% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 78% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, peach and nectarine imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 31%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Iraq (X tons) and Saudi Arabia (X tons) represented the main importers of peaches and nectarines in the Middle East, together resulting at approx. 60% of total imports. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 10% share, followed by Kuwait (8%), Oman (7.6%) and Palestine (4.7%). In terms of the main importing countries, Oman, with a CAGR of +18.1%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the import price in the Middle East amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 18% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the import price increased by 62% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while Syrian Arab Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
