Cement Pipe Market Size in the Middle East

The Middle Eastern cement pipe market stood at $X in 2022, remaining stable against the previous year. Overall, consumption recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when the market value increased by 9.6%. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in the Middle East

In 2022, after six years of growth, there was decline in shipments abroad of pipes and other articles of cement, when their volume decreased by -0.8% to X tons. Overall, exports, however, showed buoyant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 149%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, cement pipe exports fell to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by 146%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.

Exports by Country

In 2022, Turkey (X tons) represented the main exporter of pipes and other articles of cement, generating 54% of total exports. Israel (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Saudi Arabia (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 42% share of total exports. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to cement pipe exports from Turkey stood at +10.9%. At the same time, Israel (+37.3%), Saudi Arabia (+24.7%) and the United Arab Emirates (+16.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Israel emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the Middle East, with a CAGR of +37.3% from 2012-2022. While the share of Israel (+18 p.p.) and Saudi Arabia (+12 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Turkey (-19.6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Turkey ($X), Israel ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, with a combined 94% share of total exports.

Israel, with a CAGR of +42.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in the Middle East amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -9.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a strong increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when the export price increased by 84%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while Saudi Arabia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+17.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in the Middle East

After two years of growth, purchases abroad of pipes and other articles of cement decreased by -23% to X tons in 2022. Overall, imports showed a slight descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 117% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, cement pipe imports reduced to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +92.7% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 93% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

The United Arab Emirates was the largest importing country with an import of about X tons, which amounted to 51% of total imports. Israel (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 16% share, followed by Iraq (8.9%) and Qatar (5.8%). Kuwait (X tons), Bahrain (X tons), Saudi Arabia (X tons) and Lebanon (X tons) took a minor share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to cement pipe imports into the United Arab Emirates stood at +17.4%. At the same time, Bahrain (+19.3%), Kuwait (+12.4%), Israel (+11.6%) and Lebanon (+4.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Bahrain emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the Middle East, with a CAGR of +19.3% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Qatar (-2.7%), Saudi Arabia (-12.1%) and Iraq (-13.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of the United Arab Emirates (+42 p.p.), Israel (+11 p.p.), Kuwait (+3.1 p.p.) and Bahrain (+3 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Saudi Arabia (-4.9 p.p.) and Iraq (-24.1 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest cement pipe importing markets in the Middle East were the United Arab Emirates ($X), Israel ($X) and Saudi Arabia ($X), together comprising 70% of total imports.

In terms of the main importing countries, Israel, with a CAGR of +16.0%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in the Middle East stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by 26% against the previous year. Import price indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +7.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the import price increased by 37% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($X per ton), while Lebanon ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
