For the third consecutive year, the Middle Eastern plastic household ware market recorded decline in sales value, which decreased by -0.7% to $X in 2021. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of the market remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, plastic household ware production contracted modestly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production saw a relatively flat trend pattern. For the sixth consecutive year, the Middle East recorded growth in shipments abroad of plastics household articles and toilet articles, which increased by 70% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, exports enjoyed a strong expansion. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, plastic household ware exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, exports recorded a prominent expansion. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Turkey dominates exports structure, finishing at X tons, which was near 81% of total exports in 2021. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 7.8% share, followed by Israel (5.7%). Iran (X tons) held a relatively small share of total exports.

Turkey was also the fastest-growing in terms of the plastics household articles and toilet articles exports, with a CAGR of +19.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Iran (+12.5%), the United Arab Emirates (+3.9%) and Israel (+1.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Turkey (+38 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the United Arab Emirates and Israel saw its share reduced by -6.5% and -7.3% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest plastic household ware supplier in the Middle East, comprising 75% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Israel ($X), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates, with a 7.5% share.

In Turkey, plastic household ware exports expanded at an average annual rate of +16.7% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Israel (+4.1% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (+9.8% per year).

In 2021, the export price in the Middle East amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 7.4% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2013; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.

After three years of decline, supplies from abroad of plastics household articles and toilet articles increased by 24% to X tons in 2021. Total imports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.5% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, plastic household ware imports soared to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +30.4% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 35%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Saudi Arabia (X tons), the United Arab Emirates (X tons), Israel (X tons), Iraq (X tons) and Kuwait (X tons) was the major importer of plastics household articles and toilet articles in the Middle East, achieving 72% of total import. Yemen (X tons) took a 4.8% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Oman (4.7%).

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Yemen (with a CAGR of +13.0%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X), Saudi Arabia ($X) and Israel ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 60% of total imports. Iraq, Kuwait, Yemen and Oman lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 23%.

Yemen, with a CAGR of +19.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in the Middle East amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 4.9% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.2%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the import price increased by 13%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Israel ($X per ton), while Oman ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
