Overall, exports saw strong growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when exports increased by 54%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, polystyrene in primary forms exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, exports enjoyed a resilient increase. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a deep contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when imports increased by 7.3% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Moreover, Qatar emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the Middle East, with a CAGR of +33.4% from 2012-2021. Jordan experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Israel (-4.1%), Kuwait (-4.4%) and Lebanon (-7.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The United Arab Emirates (+11 p.p.), Jordan (+3.1 p.p.), Qatar (+3 p.p.) and Israel (+2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Turkey saw its share reduced by -11.9% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
