After nine years of growth, the Middle Eastern positive displacement pump market decreased by -2.9% to $X in 2021. Overall, consumption, however, enjoyed buoyant growth. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2020, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, positive displacement pump production amounted to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production enjoyed a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 191%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, production remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of positive displacement pumps and hand pumps, when their volume decreased by -34.3% to X units. Overall, exports, however, saw a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 198% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units, and then dropped notably in the following year.

In value terms, positive displacement pump exports fell markedly to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, recorded resilient growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 90%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then dropped significantly in the following year.

Exports by Country

Turkey represented the major exporter of positive displacement pumps and hand pumps in the Middle East, with the volume of exports resulting at X units, which was near 82% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by the United Arab Emirates (X units), mixing up a 12% share of total exports. Israel (X units) took a relatively small share of total exports.

Exports from Turkey increased at an average annual rate of +10.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Israel (+20.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Israel emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the Middle East, with a CAGR of +20.8% from 2012-2021. By contrast, the United Arab Emirates (-7.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Turkey (+24 p.p.) and Israel (+2.2 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of the United Arab Emirates (-27.9 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest positive displacement pump supplier in the Middle East, comprising 72% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 20% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Turkey totaled +7.9%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United Arab Emirates (+9.4% per year) and Israel (+21.9% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in the Middle East amounted to $X per unit, jumping by 18% against the previous year. Export price indicated a moderate increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, positive displacement pump export price decreased by -33.8% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the export price increased by 40% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per unit), while Turkey ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in the Middle East

In 2021, imports of positive displacement pumps and hand pumps in the Middle East contracted to X units, waning by -14.9% against 2020. Total imports indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +64.4% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 53% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units, and then shrank in the following year.

In value terms, positive displacement pump imports fell rapidly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 89%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then fell notably in the following year.

Imports by Country

Turkey represented the largest importer of positive displacement pumps and hand pumps in the Middle East, with the volume of imports accounting for X units, which was approx. 62% of total imports in 2021. Iran (X units) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 13% share, followed by the United Arab Emirates (12%) and Israel (7.9%). Syrian Arab Republic (X units) held a little share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to positive displacement pump imports into Turkey stood at +5.6%. At the same time, the United Arab Emirates (+15.6%), Israel (+8.5%) and Iran (+7.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the United Arab Emirates emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the Middle East, with a CAGR of +15.6% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Syrian Arab Republic (-4.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The United Arab Emirates (+6.2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Syrian Arab Republic and Turkey saw its share reduced by -2.5% and -6.2% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Turkey ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and Israel ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 67% share of total imports. Iran and Syrian Arab Republic lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 6.7%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Iran, with a CAGR of +8.1%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in the Middle East amounted to $X per unit, declining by -13.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 23% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit, and then contracted in the following year.
