Saudi Arabia represented the major exporter of primary cells and primary batteries in the Middle East, with the volume of exports recording X units, which was near 45% of total exports in 2022. Israel (X units) held a 17% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by the United Arab Emirates (15%), Turkey (13%) and Oman (5.4%). In value terms, Israel ($X) remains the largest primary cells and primary batteries supplier in the Middle East, comprising 65% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Saudi Arabia ($X), with a 16% share of total exports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates, with an 8% share.

In Israel, primary cells and primary batteries exports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Saudi Arabia (+9.3% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (-0.5% per year).

The export price in the Middle East stood at $X per unit in 2022, picking up by 24% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a pronounced decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the export price increased by 87%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 18%. The purchases of the four major importers of primary cells and primary batteries, namely the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, Yemen and Iraq, represented more than two-thirds of total import. Kuwait, with a CAGR of +12.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in the Middle East stood at $X per unit in 2022, waning by -6.2% against the previous year. Import price indicated a pronounced expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, primary cells and primary batteries import price increased by +2.4% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the import price increased by 23% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2018 to 2022, the import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Kuwait ($X per unit), while Yemen (less than $X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
