The Middle Eastern printing press market declined markedly to $X in 2022, which is down by -44.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption continues to indicate a perceptible shrinkage. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of the market remained at a lower figure.

After two years of decline, shipments abroad of printing presses increased by 16% to X units in 2022. Over the period under review, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 30% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, printing press exports soared to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of export peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Israel was the main exporting country with an export of around X units, which resulted at 73% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Turkey (X units) and the United Arab Emirates (X units), together constituting a 25% share of total exports.

Exports from Israel decreased at an average annual rate of -2.1% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Turkey (+25.4%) and the United Arab Emirates (+14.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Turkey emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the Middle East, with a CAGR of +25.4% from 2012-2022. Turkey (+13 p.p.) and the United Arab Emirates (+7.5 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Israel saw its share reduced by -20.6% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

In value terms, Israel ($X) remains the largest printing press supplier in the Middle East, comprising 86% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Turkey ($X), with an 11% share of total exports.

In Israel, printing press exports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Turkey (+11.2% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (+5.7% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in the Middle East stood at $X per unit in 2022, surging by 7.3% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the export price increased by 20%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Israel ($X per unit), while the United Arab Emirates ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Israel (+1.2%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in the Middle East

In 2022, the amount of printing presses imported in the Middle East totaled X units, standing approx. at the year before. Overall, imports, however, recorded a drastic downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 150%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, printing press imports reduced to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a noticeable reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 16% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

The United Arab Emirates was the major importing country with an import of around X units, which resulted at 36% of total imports. Israel (X units) ranks second in terms of the total imports with an 18% share, followed by Qatar (14%), Turkey (9.9%), Bahrain (6.3%) and Jordan (5%). Kuwait (X units) took a relatively small share of total imports.

The United Arab Emirates experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of printing presses. At the same time, Israel (+10.3%) and Bahrain (+8.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Israel emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the Middle East, with a CAGR of +10.3% from 2012-2022. Turkey experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Jordan (-5.8%), Kuwait (-6.4%) and Qatar (-18.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of the United Arab Emirates (+17 p.p.), Israel (+14 p.p.), Bahrain (+4.9 p.p.) and Turkey (+4.8 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Qatar (-42 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported printing presses in the Middle East, comprising 53% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Israel, with a 10% share.

In Turkey, printing press imports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the United Arab Emirates (-1.7% per year) and Israel (+6.8% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in the Middle East amounted to $X per unit, waning by -7.8% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a measured increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the import price increased by 357% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2021 to 2022, the import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per unit), while Bahrain ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
