Pumpkin Market Size in the Middle East

In 2022, the average pumpkin yield in the Middle East amounted to X tons per ha, flattening at the previous year. Overall, the yield recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 9.6% against the previous year. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 51% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2021, and then fell in the following year.
In value terms, pumpkin exports rose slightly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a remarkable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 37% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.
Exports by Country
Turkey was the major exporting country with an export of about X tons, which finished at 78% of total exports. Iran (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 14% share, followed by Oman (5.9%).
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to pumpkin exports from Turkey stood at +11.5%. At the same time, Iran (+43.6%) and Oman (+27.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Iran emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the Middle East, with a CAGR of +43.6% from 2012-2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Iran and Oman increased by +13 and +4 percentage points, respectively.
In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest pumpkin supplier in the Middle East, comprising 89% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Iran ($X), with a 5.9% share of total exports.
In Turkey, pumpkin exports increased at an average annual rate of +11.1% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Iran (+29.0% per year) and Oman (+23.9% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in the Middle East stood at $X per ton in 2022, picking up by 11% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a mild setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the export price increased by 22% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per ton), while Iran ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (-0.3%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.
Pumpkin Imports
Imports in the Middle East
After two years of growth, supplies from abroad of pumpkin (squash and gourds) decreased by -4.6% to X tons in 2022. Overall, imports, however, showed a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 111% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, pumpkin imports expanded markedly to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 74%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
Qatar (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons) represented roughly 59% of total imports in 2022. Israel (X tons) took the next position in the ranking, followed by Kuwait (X tons) and Bahrain (X tons). All these countries together held near 36% share of total imports. Lebanon (X tons) held a minor share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Israel (with a CAGR of +41.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest pumpkin importing markets in the Middle East were Qatar ($X), Israel ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a combined 80% share of total imports.
In terms of the main importing countries, Israel, with a CAGR of +42.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in the Middle East stood at $X per ton in 2022, picking up by 12% against the previous year. Import price indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, pumpkin import price decreased by -3.0% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 63% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
