Quince Market Size in the Middle East
The Middle Eastern quince market rose modestly to $X in 2022, surging by 2.2% against the previous year. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.
Quince Production in the Middle East
In value terms, quince production amounted to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. The total output value increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 21%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.
Turkey (X tons) constituted the country with the largest volume of quince production, accounting for 66% of total volume. Moreover, quince production in Turkey exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, Iran (X tons), twofold.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume in Turkey stood at +3.4%.
In 2022, the average yield of quinces in the Middle East contracted slightly to X tons per ha, remaining constant against the year before. In general, the yield continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 22% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the quince yield attained the maximum level at X tons per ha in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the yield remained at a lower figure. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.
In 2022, the total area harvested in terms of quinces production in the Middle East amounted to X ha, flattening at 2021. The harvested area increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the harvested area increased by 31%. Over the period under review, the harvested area dedicated to quince production attained the maximum at X ha in 2020; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.

Exports in the Middle East
In 2022, shipments abroad of quinces decreased by -13.8% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a resilient expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 45%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2021, and then declined in the following year.
In value terms, quince exports reduced dramatically to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 35% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2021, and then fell sharply in the following year.
Exports by Country
Turkey prevails in exports structure, reaching X tons, which was approx. 95% of total exports in 2022. Syrian Arab Republic (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Exports from Turkey increased at an average annual rate of +6.4% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Syrian Arab Republic (+42.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Syrian Arab Republic emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the Middle East, with a CAGR of +42.5% from 2012-2022. Syrian Arab Republic (+4 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Turkey saw its share reduced by -3.9% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.
In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest quince supplier in the Middle East, comprising 96% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Syrian Arab Republic ($X), with a 3.1% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Turkey amounted to +5.1%.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in the Middle East amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by -5.1% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a mild slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the export price increased by 19%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per ton), while Syrian Arab Republic amounted to $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (-1.2%).
Quince Imports
Imports in the Middle East
In 2022, the amount of quinces imported in the Middle East fell to X tons, waning by -12.3% against 2021 figures. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a strong expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 124% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.
In value terms, quince imports reduced to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, showed prominent growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 134% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then fell in the following year.
Imports by Country
Iraq represented the major importer of quinces in the Middle East, with the volume of imports amounting to X tons, which was near 38% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Israel (X tons), Saudi Arabia (X tons), the United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Syrian Arab Republic (X tons), together generating a 51% share of total imports. Jordan (X tons) and Kuwait (X tons) took a little share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Saudi Arabia (with a CAGR of +25.0%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest quince importing markets in the Middle East were Israel ($X), Iraq ($X) and Saudi Arabia ($X), with a combined 76% share of total imports. The United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Syrian Arab Republic and Kuwait lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 18%.
The United Arab Emirates, with a CAGR of +19.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in the Middle East amounted to $X per ton, growing by 10% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a pronounced curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 29% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Jordan ($X per ton), while Syrian Arab Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Jordan (+2.0%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
