In value terms, Saudi Arabia ($X) remains the largest railway sleeper supplier in the Middle East, comprising 63% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Lebanon ($X), with a 23% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Saudi Arabia stood at -7.2%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Lebanon (+23.7% per year) and Bahrain (+23.3% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in the Middle East stood at $X per cubic meter in 2021, falling by -28.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a abrupt slump. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X cubic meters in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, railway sleeper imports rose notably to $X in 2021. In general, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 26% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
Israel prevails in imports structure, recording X cubic meters, which was near 78% of total imports in 2021. Kuwait (X cubic meters) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 6.7% share, followed by Bahrain (6.3%). The following importers - Iran (X cubic meters), the United Arab Emirates (X cubic meters) and Oman (X cubic meters) - together made up 8.1% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to railway sleeper imports into Israel stood at +5.7%. At the same time, Kuwait (+86.5%), the United Arab Emirates (+15.0%), Bahrain (+7.5%) and Iran (+1.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kuwait emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the Middle East, with a CAGR of +86.5% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Oman (-18.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kuwait ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates, with a 12% share.
In Israel, railway sleeper imports increased at an average annual rate of +13.7% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Kuwait (+37.9% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (+11.1% per year).
