The total consumption indicated a noticeable expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, consumption increased by +73.9% against 2015 indices. The level of consumption peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

The United Arab Emirates (X units) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Oman (X units). All these countries together held approx. 42% share of total exports. The following exporters - Bahrain (X units), Saudi Arabia (X units) and Jordan (X units) - each accounted for a 6% share of total exports.

Turkey was also the fastest-growing in terms of the road tractors for semi-trailers exports, with a CAGR of +22.5% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, the United Arab Emirates (+20.7%) and Saudi Arabia (+6.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Oman experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Bahrain (-2.3%) and Jordan (-9.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Turkey (+31 p.p.) and the United Arab Emirates (+12 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Bahrain (-4.7 p.p.), Jordan (-7.7 p.p.) and Oman (-28 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest road tractor for semi-trailer supplier in the Middle East, comprising 94% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Oman ($X), with a 2.6% share of total exports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates, with a 2.5% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Turkey amounted to +29.8%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Oman (+15.7% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (+26.6% per year).

In 2021, the export price in the Middle East amounted to $X per unit, picking up by 29% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price enjoyed a resilient increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when the export price increased by 289% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per unit), while Jordan ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in the Middle East

In 2021, supplies from abroad of road tractors for semi-trailers increased by 41% to X units, rising for the fourth year in a row after three years of decline. Overall, imports, however, showed a slight curtailment. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, road tractor for semi-trailer imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, recorded a slight reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 57%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, the United Arab Emirates (X units) was the main importer of road tractors for semi-trailers, comprising 38% of total imports. Saudi Arabia (X units) took a 23% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Turkey (11%), Iran (7.8%) and Oman (5.3%). The following importers - Kuwait (X units) and Iraq (X units) - each amounted to an 8.3% share of total imports.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per unit), while the United Arab Emirates ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
