Over the period under review, production of hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

Exports in the Middle East
In 2022, exports of salted, dried or smoked meat, and offal in the Middle East soared to X tons, growing by 25% against 2021. In general, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 58%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports of remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, exports of salted, dried or smoked meat, and offal skyrocketed to $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 45% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
The United Arab Emirates represented the largest exporter of salted, dried or smoked meat, and offal in the Middle East, with the volume of exports reaching X tons, which was near 59% of total exports in 2022. Turkey (X tons) held a 30% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Iran (5.3%). The following exporters - Oman (X tons) and Palestine (X tons) - each amounted to a 3.4% share of total exports.
The United Arab Emirates was also the fastest-growing in terms of the salted, dried or smoked meat, and offal exports, with a CAGR of +15.2% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Iran (+6.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Turkey (-3.2%), Oman (-6.2%) and Palestine (-10.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of the United Arab Emirates (+45 p.p.) and Iran (+2.5 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Palestine (-3.1 p.p.) and Turkey (-10.1 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) remains the largest salted, dried or smoked meat, and offal supplier in the Middle East, comprising 72% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Turkey ($X), with a 19% share of total exports. It was followed by Palestine, with a 2.4% share.
In the United Arab Emirates, exports of salted, dried or smoked meat, and offal expanded at an average annual rate of +18.5% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Turkey (+2.6% per year) and Palestine (+5.0% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in the Middle East amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -5.2% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.2%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the export price increased by 52% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then contracted in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Palestine ($X per ton), while Iran ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Palestine (+17.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Salted, Dried or Smoked Meat, and Offal
Imports in the Middle East
After two years of decline, supplies from abroad of salted, dried or smoked meat, and offal increased by 12% to X tons in 2022. Overall, imports, however, recorded a pronounced decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 53% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports of attained the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, imports of salted, dried or smoked meat, and offal amounted to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, recorded a mild descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 35%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of imports of remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
The United Arab Emirates was the key importing country with an import of about X tons, which finished at 52% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Lebanon (X tons), Kuwait (X tons), Iraq (X tons), Qatar (X tons), Oman (X tons) and Turkey (X tons), together mixing up a 45% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to salted, dried or smoked meat, and offal imports into the United Arab Emirates stood at +1.9%. At the same time, Iraq (+10.3%), Turkey (+8.8%), Oman (+7.2%) and Kuwait (+3.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Iraq emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the Middle East, with a CAGR of +10.3% from 2012-2022. Lebanon experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Qatar (-12.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The United Arab Emirates (+19 p.p.), Iraq (+5.6 p.p.), Kuwait (+3.9 p.p.), Oman (+3.6 p.p.), Lebanon (+3.1 p.p.) and Turkey (+3.1 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Qatar saw its share reduced by -14.1% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported salted, dried or smoked meat, and offal in the Middle East, comprising 54% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Qatar ($X), with a 9.3% share of total imports. It was followed by Lebanon, with a 9.1% share.
In the United Arab Emirates, imports of salted, dried or smoked meat, and offal expanded at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Qatar (-8.7% per year) and Lebanon (+0.1% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in the Middle East amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by -10.1% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.5%.
