In 2021, shipments abroad of secateurs and similar one-handed pruners and shears decreased by -23.9% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, exports, however, saw a perceptible expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 413% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, secateurs exports declined significantly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 502% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Turkey dominates exports structure, finishing at X tons, which was approx. 81% of total exports in 2021. Jordan (X tons) took a 7.5% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Israel (6.4%). The United Arab Emirates (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to secateurs exports from Turkey stood at +4.5%. At the same time, Jordan (+22.5%) and Israel (+20.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Jordan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the Middle East, with a CAGR of +22.5% from 2012-2021. By contrast, the United Arab Emirates (-10.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Jordan (+5.7 p.p.), Israel (+4.7 p.p.) and Turkey (+2.1 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of the United Arab Emirates (-11.8 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) emerged as the largest secateurs supplier in the Middle East, comprising 59% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Israel ($X), with a 16% share of total exports. It was followed by Jordan, with a 16% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Turkey totaled +4.1%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Israel (+27.1% per year) and Jordan (+33.6% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in the Middle East stood at $X per ton in 2021, reducing by -31.9% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 58% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Israel ($X per ton), while Turkey ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Jordan (+9.1%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in the Middle East

After two years of growth, purchases abroad of secateurs and similar one-handed pruners and shears decreased by -0.6% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, imports saw a slight reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 32%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, secateurs imports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, imports saw a perceptible reduction. The level of import peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Iraq represented the largest importing country with an import of about X tons, which reached 39% of total imports. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Israel (X tons), Turkey (X tons) and Iran (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 48% share of total imports. The following importers - Jordan (X tons) and Kuwait (X tons) - together made up 6.3% of total imports.

Iraq was also the fastest-growing in terms of the secateurs and similar one-handed pruners and shears imports, with a CAGR of +19.8% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Israel (+8.6%), Kuwait (+7.6%), the United Arab Emirates (+5.9%) and Jordan (+2.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Iran (-11.1%) and Turkey (-11.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Iraq (+33 p.p.), Israel (+7.4 p.p.) and the United Arab Emirates (+7.2 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Iran (-13.8 p.p.) and Turkey (-17.5 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest secateurs importing markets in the Middle East were Turkey ($X), Iraq ($X) and Israel ($X), together comprising 65% of total imports.

Iraq, with a CAGR of +17.1%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in the Middle East stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 17% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a noticeable contraction. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per ton), while Iraq ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
