The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 132% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, sesame seed exports rose markedly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports posted a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 79% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

In 2022, Turkey (X tons) represented the key exporter of sesame seed, achieving 68% of total exports. It was distantly followed by the United Arab Emirates (X tons), comprising a 26% share of total exports. Yemen (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Turkey was also the fastest-growing in terms of the sesame seed exports, with a CAGR of +33.6% from 2012 to 2022. Total imports indicated a noticeable increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -15.8% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 35% against the previous year. Moreover, the United Arab Emirates emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the Middle East, with a CAGR of +5.0% from 2012-2022. Iran, Israel and Jordan experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. While the share of Turkey (+7.5 p.p.) and the United Arab Emirates (+2.4 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Jordan (-1.6 p.p.) and Israel (-3.1 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported sesame seed in the Middle East, comprising 40% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Israel ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates, with an 11% share.
