Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, mineral wool imports rose slightly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The purchases of the three major importers of slag wool, rock wool and similar mineral wools and mixtures, namely the United Arab Emirates, Turkey and Israel, represented more than half of total import. Iraq (X tons) took an 8.6% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Saudi Arabia (8%), Qatar (7.9%) and Kuwait (5.1%).

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Kuwait (with a CAGR of +16.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest mineral wool importing markets in the Middle East were the United Arab Emirates ($X), Turkey ($X) and Israel ($X), with a combined 62% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Iraq, which together accounted for a further 26%.

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the import price increased by 7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
