Slate Market Size in the Middle East

In 2021, the Middle Eastern slate market decreased by -6.4% to $X for the first time since 2011, thus ending a nine-year rising trend. Over the period under review, consumption, however, recorded a prominent expansion. In 2021, supplies from abroad of slate increased by 0.6% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after three years of decline. Overall, imports, however, showed a perceptible contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 61%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, slate imports shrank to $X in 2021. In general, imports continue to indicate a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 53% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2021, the United Arab Emirates (X tons), distantly followed by Israel (X tons), Bahrain (X tons), Turkey (X tons), Iraq (X tons) and Qatar (X tons) represented the major importers of slate, together committing 96% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Iraq (with a CAGR of +39.7%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
