Sorghum Market Size in the Middle East
The Middle Eastern sorghum market contracted to $X in 2022, leveling off at the previous year. Overall, consumption recorded a noticeable setback. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The countries with the highest volumes of production in 2022 were Yemen (X tons), Saudi Arabia (X tons) and Oman (X tons), with a combined 87% share of total production.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of production, amongst the key producing countries, was attained by Oman (with a CAGR of +11.2%), while production for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In 2022, the average sorghum yield in the Middle East reached X tons per ha, picking up by 2.2% against 2021 figures. The yield figure increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. In 2022, overseas shipments of sorghum increased by 2,214% to X tons, rising for the fifth year in a row after two years of decline. Overall, exports continue to indicate significant growth. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Turkey (X tons) represented roughly 97% of total exports in 2022.
Turkey was also the fastest-growing in terms of the sorghum exports, with a CAGR of +150.2% from 2012 to 2022. While the share of Turkey (+96 p.p.) increased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Turkey ($X) also remains the largest sorghum supplier in the Middle East.

In 2022, the export price in the Middle East amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -44.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a deep contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 41%. Imports in the Middle East
In 2022, the amount of sorghum imported in the Middle East surged to X tons, jumping by 23% on the previous year's figure. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a drastic downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 32% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, sorghum imports surged to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 38%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Israel represented the largest importing country with an import of around X tons, which accounted for 45% of total imports. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) held a 20% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Turkey (11%), Saudi Arabia (8.1%) and Palestine (5.4%). Iraq (X tons) and Oman (X tons) held a relatively small share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to sorghum imports into Israel stood at +2.6%. At the same time, Oman (+34.6%), Turkey (+25.1%), the United Arab Emirates (+11.7%), Iraq (+6.9%) and Palestine (+5.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Oman emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the Middle East, with a CAGR of +34.6% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Saudi Arabia (-25.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Israel (+29 p.p.), the United Arab Emirates (+17 p.p.), Turkey (+10 p.p.), Palestine (+5.4 p.p.), Iraq (+2.9 p.p.) and Oman (+1.9 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Saudi Arabia saw its share reduced by -66.2% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.
In value terms, the largest sorghum importing markets in the Middle East were Israel ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and Saudi Arabia ($X), with a combined 79% share of total imports. Turkey, Palestine, Oman and Iraq lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 17%.
Palestine, with a CAGR of +316.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in the Middle East amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 4.7% against the previous year. Import price indicated a noticeable expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, sorghum import price increased by +72.1% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when the import price increased by 45% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while Iraq ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Saudi Arabia (+7.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
