Soya Sauce Market Size in the Middle East
The Middle Eastern soya sauce market skyrocketed to $X in 2022, with an increase of 16% against the previous year. The total consumption indicated a moderate expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the last decade. In 2022, overseas shipments of soya sauce increased by 77% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. In general, exports posted resilient growth. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, soya sauce exports reduced to $X in 2022. Overall, exports posted strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 60% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
The United Arab Emirates prevails in exports structure, resulting at X tons, which was approx. 74% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Turkey (X tons), committing a 9% share of total exports. Israel (X tons), Palestine (X tons), Kuwait (X tons), Oman (X tons) and Lebanon (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Exports from the United Arab Emirates increased at an average annual rate of +6.8% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Israel (+42.8%), Turkey (+26.3%), Kuwait (+14.7%), Palestine (+14.5%), Lebanon (+9.8%) and Oman (+7.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Israel emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the Middle East, with a CAGR of +42.8% from 2012-2022. Turkey (+7.1 p.p.) and Israel (+3.9 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the United Arab Emirates saw its share reduced by -9.9% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) remains the largest soya sauce supplier in the Middle East, comprising 46% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Turkey ($X), with a 22% share of total exports. It was followed by Israel, with an 8.5% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in the United Arab Emirates stood at +6.1%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Turkey (+22.3% per year) and Israel (+44.0% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in the Middle East amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by -43.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed modest growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the export price increased by 36% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Lebanon ($X per ton), while the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Israel (+0.9%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in the Middle East
In 2022, approx. X tons of soya sauce were imported in the Middle East; declining by -31.6% on the previous year. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 29% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2021, and then declined significantly in the following year.
In value terms, soya sauce imports contracted notably to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated notable growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 29%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then fell markedly in the following year.
Imports by Country
The United Arab Emirates (X tons), Israel (X tons) and Turkey (X tons) represented roughly 72% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Qatar (X tons) and Kuwait (X tons), together mixing up a 14% share of total imports. The following importers - Lebanon (X tons) and Bahrain (X tons) - together made up 6.9% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Turkey (with a CAGR of +12.8%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X), Israel ($X) and Turkey ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together comprising 69% of total imports.
Turkey, with a CAGR of +12.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in the Middle East stood at $X per ton in 2022, remaining constant against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.1%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the import price increased by 9.8%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Bahrain ($X per ton), while Turkey ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
