The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 413% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons, and then dropped dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, sugar beet exports contracted dramatically to $X in 2022. Overall, exports showed a abrupt descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 232%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then fell dramatically in the following year.

Exports by Country

Syrian Arab Republic was the major exporting country with an export of about X tons, which accounted for 50% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Oman (X tons), Iran (X tons), Turkey (X tons), the United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Israel (X tons), together generating a 48% share of total exports. Lebanon (X tons) held a little share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to sugar beet exports from Syrian Arab Republic stood at -3.5%. At the same time, Oman (+47.1%), Iran (+42.0%) and Turkey (+25.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Oman emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the Middle East, with a CAGR of +47.1% from 2012-2022. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest sugar beet supplier in the Middle East, comprising 49% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Oman ($X), with a 16% share of total exports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates, with a 16% share.

In Turkey, sugar beet exports increased at an average annual rate of +26.2% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Oman (+35.6% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (-11.2% per year).

In 2022, the export price in the Middle East amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 159% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 177%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, sugar beet imports contracted to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a abrupt setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 225% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Oman represented the main importer of sugar beet in the Middle East, with the volume of imports accounting for X tons, which was near 68% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Saudi Arabia (X tons), Kuwait (X tons) and Qatar (X tons), together making up a 27% share of total imports. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) took a little share of total imports.

Oman was also the fastest-growing in terms of the sugar beet imports, with a CAGR of +42.0% from 2012 to 2022. Kuwait (-2.1%), the United Arab Emirates (-3.0%), Saudi Arabia (-18.6%) and Qatar (-22.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period.
