The Middle Eastern preserved sweet corn market declined notably to $X in 2022, waning by -26.2% against the previous year. Exports in the Middle East
Preserved sweet corn exports declined to X tons in 2022, which is down by -12.8% compared with the previous year's figure. Overall, exports, however, posted a resilient expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 174%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons, and then contracted in the following year.
In value terms, preserved sweet corn exports rose rapidly to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, enjoyed strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 157% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.
Exports by Country
Turkey represented the largest exporter of sweet corn prepared or preserved in the Middle East, with the volume of exports recording X tons, which was near 58% of total exports in 2022. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) took a 30% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Palestine (7.8%).
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Turkey (with a CAGR of +34.5%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest preserved sweet corn supplier in the Middle East, comprising 65% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 23% share of total exports.
In Turkey, preserved sweet corn exports increased at an average annual rate of +30.6% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United Arab Emirates (+20.4% per year) and Palestine (+14.9% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in the Middle East amounted to $X per ton, rising by 21% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.8%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per ton), while the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+6.3%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in the Middle East
In 2022, preserved sweet corn imports in the Middle East reduced notably to X tons, falling by -30% compared with 2021 figures. Overall, imports continue to indicate a pronounced contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 28%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, preserved sweet corn imports contracted notably to $X in 2022. In general, imports recorded a slight reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 22%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
The countries with the highest levels of preserved sweet corn imports in 2022 were the United Arab Emirates (X tons), Lebanon (X tons), Iraq (X tons), Israel (X tons), Jordan (X tons), Kuwait (X tons) and Turkey (X tons), together finishing at 88% of total import.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Iraq (with a CAGR of +33.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X), Lebanon ($X) and Israel ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 44% of total imports. Jordan, Kuwait, Iraq and Turkey lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 44%.
Iraq, with a CAGR of +32.5%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in the Middle East stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by 3.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 7.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per ton), while Lebanon ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Israel (+2.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
