Non-Chicken Table Egg Market Size in the Middle East

The Middle Eastern non-chicken table egg market surged to $X in 2021, growing by 15% against the previous year. The total consumption indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, consumption increased by +41.5% against 2019 indices. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, non-chicken table egg production dropped to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Overall, production showed a perceptible reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 35%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The country with the largest volume of non-chicken table egg production was Kuwait (X tons), accounting for 88% of total volume. Moreover, non-chicken table egg production in Kuwait exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, Turkey (X tons), more than tenfold. Jordan (X tons) ranked third in terms of total production with a 2.6% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume in Kuwait totaled +2.5%. The remaining producing countries recorded the following average annual rates of production growth: Turkey (+1.3% per year) and Jordan (+2.7% per year).

Exports in the Middle East

In 2021, overseas shipments of table eggs, excluding hen eggs increased by 61% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a abrupt slump. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, non-chicken table egg exports surged to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt decrease. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Saudi Arabia dominates exports structure, accounting for X tons, which was approx. 87% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Kuwait (X tons), generating a 7.3% share of total exports. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Oman (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to non-chicken table egg exports from Saudi Arabia stood at +2.2%. At the same time, Oman (+10.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Oman emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the Middle East, with a CAGR of +10.5% from 2012-2021. By contrast, the United Arab Emirates (-15.7%) and Kuwait (-30.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Saudi Arabia and Oman increased by +61 and +1.9 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, Saudi Arabia ($X) emerged as the largest non-chicken table egg supplier in the Middle East, comprising 87% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kuwait ($X), with a 7% share of total exports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates, with a 2.8% share.

In Saudi Arabia, non-chicken table egg exports expanded at an average annual rate of +4.6% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Kuwait (-33.0% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (-12.6% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in the Middle East stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 17% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a slight decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 21% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) and Saudi Arabia ($X per ton), while Oman ($X per ton) and Kuwait ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+3.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in the Middle East

In 2021, non-chicken table egg imports in the Middle East skyrocketed to X tons, growing by 17% against the year before. Overall, imports enjoyed notable growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 220% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, non-chicken table egg imports amounted to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a mild expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -26.1% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 127% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Saudi Arabia represented the key importer of table eggs, excluding hen eggs in the Middle East, with the volume of imports reaching X tons, which was approx. 52% of total imports in 2021. Bahrain (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Israel (X tons) and Kuwait (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 45% share of total imports.

Imports into Saudi Arabia increased at an average annual rate of +24.6% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Bahrain (+79.6%), Israel (+30.8%) and Kuwait (+16.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Bahrain emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the Middle East, with a CAGR of +79.6% from 2012-2021. Saudi Arabia (+52 p.p.), Bahrain (+19 p.p.), Israel (+14 p.p.) and Kuwait (+7.4 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Saudi Arabia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported table eggs, excluding hen eggs in the Middle East, comprising 48% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Bahrain ($X), with a 21% share of total imports. It was followed by Israel, with a 13% share.

In Saudi Arabia, non-chicken table egg imports increased at an average annual rate of +24.4% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Bahrain (+34.8% per year) and Israel (+26.9% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in the Middle East stood at $X per ton in 2021, declining by -2% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a slight descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the import price increased by 42%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2018 to 2021, the import prices failed to regain momentum.
