Talc And Steatite Market Size in the Middle East

The Middle Eastern talc and steatite market reduced slightly to $X in 2022, leveling off at the previous year. In general, consumption, however, recorded a prominent increase. Over the period under review, the market reached the maximum level at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, shipments abroad of talc and steatite increased by 25% to X tons, rising for the sixth year in a row after three years of decline. Over the period under review, exports enjoyed a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 103% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, talc and steatite exports soared to $X in 2022. In general, exports saw resilient growth. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Turkey dominates exports structure, recording X tons, which was approx. 81% of total exports in 2022. Saudi Arabia (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with an 8.9% share, followed by Iran (6.1%). Israel (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from Turkey increased at an average annual rate of +14.6% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Israel (+61.1%), Iran (+8.0%) and Saudi Arabia (+5.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Israel emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the Middle East, with a CAGR of +61.1% from 2012-2022. While the share of Turkey (+21 p.p.) and Israel (+2 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Iran (-2.1 p.p.) and Saudi Arabia (-6.6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest talc and steatite supplier in the Middle East, comprising 87% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Saudi Arabia ($X), with a 4.5% share of total exports. It was followed by Israel, with a 2.8% share.

In Turkey, talc and steatite exports expanded at an average annual rate of +15.9% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Saudi Arabia (+7.9% per year) and Israel (+64.7% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in the Middle East stood at $X per ton in 2022, with an increase of 48% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.7%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Israel ($X per ton), while Iran ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Saudi Arabia (+2.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

For the third consecutive year, the Middle East recorded decline in purchases abroad of talc and steatite, which decreased by -7.2% to X tons in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 16%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, talc and steatite imports amounted to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 14% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

Imports by Country

Turkey was the key importing country with an import of around X tons, which accounted for 46% of total imports. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 28% share, followed by Israel (11%). The following importers - Qatar (X tons), Oman (X tons), Lebanon (X tons), Iraq (X tons) and Jordan (X tons) - together made up 12% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Iraq (with a CAGR of +13.6%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Turkey ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and Israel ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 81% share of total imports. Qatar, Oman, Jordan, Lebanon and Iraq lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 16%.

Among the main importing countries, Qatar, with a CAGR of +12.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in the Middle East stood at $X per ton in 2022, growing by 7.8% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.4%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the import price increased by 11%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Qatar ($X per ton), while Lebanon ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Jordan (+5.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
