Turkey dominates imports structure, recording X tons, which was approx. 83% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Iran (X tons), comprising a 4.9% share of total imports. The following importers - Syrian Arab Republic (X tons), Qatar (X tons), Lebanon (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons) - together made up 10% of total imports.
Imports into Turkey increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Lebanon (+24.7%), Qatar (+17.7%) and the United Arab Emirates (+6.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Lebanon emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the Middle East, with a CAGR of +24.7% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Iran (-5.9%) and Syrian Arab Republic (-7.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Turkey, Qatar and Lebanon increased by +16, +1.9 and +1.9 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Turkey ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported tanning extracts of vegetable origin, tannins and their salts other derivatives in the Middle East, comprising 81% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Iran ($X), with a 4.2% share of total imports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates, with a 3.5% share.
