Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, tapioca and substitutes exports rose rapidly to $X in 2021. In general, exports faced a abrupt descent. Oman represented the major exporter of tapioca and substitutes in the Middle East, with the volume of exports reaching X tons, which was near 44% of total exports in 2021. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Lebanon (X tons), Syrian Arab Republic (X tons) and Jordan (X tons). All these countries together held near 49% share of total exports. Saudi Arabia (X tons) and Israel (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to tapioca and substitutes exports from Oman stood at +9.0%. At the same time, Saudi Arabia (+12.2%) and the United Arab Emirates (+11.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Saudi Arabia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the Middle East, with a CAGR of +12.2% from 2012-2021. Oman (+37 p.p.), the United Arab Emirates (+17 p.p.), Lebanon (+3.2 p.p.), Syrian Arab Republic (+2.5 p.p.) and Saudi Arabia (+2.4 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Jordan saw its share reduced by -61.1% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest tapioca and substitutes supplying countries in the Middle East were Oman ($X), Lebanon ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a combined 67% share of total exports.

Oman, with a CAGR of +10.7%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in the Middle East amounted to $X per ton, rising by 55% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw slight growth. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Israel ($X per ton), while Syrian Arab Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
