The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, taro (cocoyam) exports dropped to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, saw a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 608%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.

The United Arab Emirates dominates exports structure, amounting to X tons, which was approx. 95% of total exports in 2022. Jordan (X tons) held a minor share of total exports.

Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 134% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of (cocoyam) imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, taro (cocoyam) imports dropped to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a mild expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% over the last decade. At the same time, Bahrain (+108.5%), Qatar (+32.8%), Kuwait (+27.3%) and Oman (+23.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Bahrain emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the Middle East, with a CAGR of +108.5% from 2012-2022. In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported taro in the Middle East, comprising 54% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Qatar ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by Oman, with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in the United Arab Emirates amounted to -2.4%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Qatar (+55.3% per year) and Oman (+40.2% per year).

In 2022, the import price in the Middle East amounted to $X per ton, growing by 2.9% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern.
