Exports in the Middle East
In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in shipments abroad of telecommunications instruments, when their volume increased by 50% to X units. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by 109% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, telecommunications instrument exports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a deep reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by 76%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
The United Arab Emirates was the main exporting country with an export of around X units, which finished at 56% of total exports. Israel (X units) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Turkey (X units) and Saudi Arabia (X units). All these countries together took approx. 38% share of total exports. The following exporters - Lebanon (X units) and Oman (X units) - each reached a 4.2% share of total exports.
Exports from the United Arab Emirates decreased at an average annual rate of -3.4% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Lebanon (+23.1%), Oman (+17.8%) and Israel (+1.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Lebanon emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the Middle East, with a CAGR of +23.1% from 2012-2021. Saudi Arabia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Turkey (-10.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Israel, Lebanon and Oman increased by +7.2, +1.9 and +1.7 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Israel ($X) remains the largest telecommunications instrument supplier in the Middle East, comprising 70% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 14% share of total exports. It was followed by Lebanon, with a 6% share.
In Israel, telecommunications instrument exports increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United Arab Emirates (-2.8% per year) and Lebanon (+21.7% per year).

The export price in the Middle East stood at $X per unit in 2021, declining by -15.2% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a abrupt contraction. In 2021, overseas purchases of telecommunications instruments increased by 51% to X units, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Total imports indicated temperate growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +69.3% against 2019 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2021, the import price in the Middle East amounted to $X per unit, waning by -7.3% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a slight downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 an increase of 21% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Palestine ($X per unit), while Turkey ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
