The Middle Eastern wood tool market soared to $X in 2021, surging by 35% against the previous year. The total consumption indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.1% over the last nine years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the production volume increased by 87%. Over the period under review, production attained the maximum level at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, production failed to regain momentum.

Exports in the Middle East
For the fifth year in a row, the Middle East recorded growth in shipments abroad of tools of wood, which increased by 29% to X tons in 2021. In general, exports recorded a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when exports increased by 107%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
In value terms, wood tool exports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports showed strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 65%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
Exports by Country
Turkey prevails in exports structure, recording X tons, which was approx. 90% of total exports in 2021. The United Arab Emirates (X tons), Palestine (X tons) and Syrian Arab Republic (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Turkey was also the fastest-growing in terms of the tools of wood exports, with a CAGR of +32.7% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Palestine (+2.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Syrian Arab Republic (-1.2%) and the United Arab Emirates (-5.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Turkey increased by +49 percentage points.
In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest wood tool supplier in the Middle East, comprising 79% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with an 11% share of total exports. It was followed by Palestine, with a 5.2% share.
In Turkey, wood tool exports expanded at an average annual rate of +20.7% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the United Arab Emirates (+9.0% per year) and Palestine (+8.9% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in the Middle East stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 5.7% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a noticeable contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 12%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while Turkey ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+15.0%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.
Wood Tool Imports
Imports in the Middle East
In 2021, purchases abroad of tools of wood increased by 23% to X tons, rising for the third year in a row after two years of decline. Total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +72.1% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 26%. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, wood tool imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports recorded buoyant growth. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
Iraq was the major importing country with an import of about X tons, which accounted for 57% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Saudi Arabia (X tons), the United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Turkey (X tons), together generating a 26% share of total imports. Iran (X tons), Oman (X tons), Yemen (X tons) and Syrian Arab Republic (X tons) held a little share of total imports.
Iraq was also the fastest-growing in terms of the tools of wood imports, with a CAGR of +31.0% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Oman (+21.8%), Syrian Arab Republic (+9.8%), Yemen (+8.3%), Iran (+5.6%) and the United Arab Emirates (+2.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Saudi Arabia (-4.7%) and Turkey (-7.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Iraq and Oman increased by +48 and +1.9 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Iraq ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported tools of wood in the Middle East, comprising 58% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 20% share of total imports. It was followed by Saudi Arabia, with a 5.5% share.
In Iraq, wood tool imports increased at an average annual rate of +46.8% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United Arab Emirates (+19.4% per year) and Saudi Arabia (-4.6% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in the Middle East stood at $X per ton in 2021, jumping by 54% against the previous year. Import price indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +8.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, wood tool import price increased by +106.5% against 2019 indices. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
