The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 60% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X units. From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Saudi Arabia (with a CAGR of +10.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest tooth brush supplying countries in the Middle East were the United Arab Emirates ($X), Turkey ($X) and Oman ($X), together accounting for 96% of total exports. These countries were followed by Saudi Arabia, which accounted for a further 2.1%.

Among the main exporting countries, Saudi Arabia, with a CAGR of +11.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in the Middle East

In 2022, overseas purchases of tooth brushes were finally on the rise to reach X units for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 22% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, tooth brush imports declined to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a slight downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 13%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, the United Arab Emirates (X units) was the main importer of tooth brushes, committing 40% of total imports. Iraq (X units) held a 16% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Turkey (14%), Israel (10%), Kuwait (6.3%) and Iran (4.8%). Oman (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Imports into the United Arab Emirates decreased at an average annual rate of -3.5% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Oman (+29.7%), Iraq (+13.4%) and Israel (+2.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Oman emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the Middle East, with a CAGR of +29.7% from 2012-2022. Turkey experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Kuwait (-1.2%) and Iran (-9.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Iraq (+12 p.p.), Israel (+3.2 p.p.) and Oman (+2.3 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Iran (-7.2 p.p.) and the United Arab Emirates (-11.9 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X), Turkey ($X) and Israel ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 60% of total imports. Kuwait, Iraq, Oman and Iran lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 29%.

Oman, with a CAGR of +32.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in the Middle East stood at $X per unit in 2022, declining by -14.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the import price increased by 20% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Kuwait ($X per unit), while Iran ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
