Sportswear Market Size in the Middle East

The Middle Eastern sportswear market declined to $X in 2021, shrinking by -6.8% against the previous year. In general, consumption saw a slight decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 8% against the previous year. In 2021, overseas purchases of track suits, ski suits and swimwear were finally on the rise to reach X units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 30%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, sportswear imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of import peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, the United Arab Emirates (X units) represented the key importer of track suits, ski suits and swimwear, achieving 40% of total imports. Iraq (X units) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 22% share, followed by Israel (14%), Turkey (9.1%) and Kuwait (6.8%). The following importers - Qatar (X units) and Jordan (X units) - each accounted for a 4.2% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Iraq (with a CAGR of +22.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X), Israel ($X) and Turkey ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 55% of total imports. Iraq, Kuwait, Qatar and Jordan lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 22%.

Iraq, with a CAGR of +21.4%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the import price in the Middle East amounted to $X per unit, rising by 14% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Qatar ($X per unit), while Iraq ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Jordan (+3.6%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
