Travel Set Market Size in the Middle East

In 2021, the Middle Eastern travel set market decreased by -11.5% to $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. The total consumption indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.0% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, consumption increased by +72.2% against 2018 indices. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2020, and then reduced in the following year.

In value terms, travel set production contracted rapidly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, saw a measured increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the production volume increased by 69%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2020, and then contracted remarkably in the following year.

Exports in the Middle East

In 2021, approx. X units of travel sets were exported in the Middle East; picking up by 37% on 2020 figures. In general, exports enjoyed a strong expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 208%. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, travel set exports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, exports enjoyed a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 263%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Turkey dominates exports structure, resulting at X units, which was near 86% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by the United Arab Emirates (X units), mixing up a 5.4% share of total exports. The following exporters - Syrian Arab Republic (X units), Qatar (X units) and Saudi Arabia (X units) - each reached a 6.1% share of total exports.

Turkey was also the fastest-growing in terms of the travel sets exports, with a CAGR of +51.5% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Syrian Arab Republic (+15.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, the United Arab Emirates (-4.2%), Qatar (-4.6%) and Saudi Arabia (-16.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Turkey (+78 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia saw its share reduced by -10.4%, -27.3% and -32.4% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest travel set supplier in the Middle East, comprising 92% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 2.5% share of total exports. It was followed by Saudi Arabia, with a 1.8% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Turkey totaled +56.0%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United Arab Emirates (-11.3% per year) and Saudi Arabia (-11.2% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in the Middle East amounted to $X per unit, jumping by 22% against the previous year. Export price indicated notable growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when the export price increased by 68%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2017 to 2021, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($X per unit), while Syrian Arab Republic ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Saudi Arabia (+6.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in the Middle East

Travel set imports reduced to X units in 2021, with a decrease of -6.6% against 2020. Total imports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -17.6% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 50% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, travel set imports shrank modestly to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 47% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, the United Arab Emirates (X units) was the main importer of travel sets, committing 62% of total imports. Turkey (X units) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Qatar (X units). All these countries together held approx. 28% share of total imports. Yemen (X units) and Iraq (X units) took a relatively small share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to travel set imports into the United Arab Emirates stood at +12.2%. At the same time, Turkey (+43.9%) and Iraq (+27.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Turkey emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the Middle East, with a CAGR of +43.9% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Qatar (-2.7%) and Yemen (-4.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Turkey (+16 p.p.), the United Arab Emirates (+16 p.p.) and Iraq (+2.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Yemen and Qatar saw its share reduced by -8.7% and -16.9% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported travel sets in the Middle East, comprising 56% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Turkey ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by Qatar, with a 13% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in the United Arab Emirates amounted to +11.1%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Turkey (+44.1% per year) and Qatar (+2.3% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in the Middle East stood at $X per unit in 2021, surging by 4.6% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a perceptible contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when the import price increased by 4.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Qatar ($X per unit), while Yemen ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
