The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 34% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2020, and then contracted in the following year.
In value terms, vulcanised rubber thread imports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 25% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.

Turkey (X tons) and Iran (X tons) prevails in imports structure, together making up 80% of total imports. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 9.2% share, followed by Syrian Arab Republic (4.9%). Iraq (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Iraq (with a CAGR of +11.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Turkey ($X), Iran ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 88% of total imports. Iraq and Syrian Arab Republic lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 10%.
In terms of the main importing countries, Iraq, with a CAGR of +16.7%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in the Middle East stood at $X per ton in 2021, jumping by 22% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the import price increased by 22% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Iraq ($X per ton), while Syrian Arab Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Iraq (+5.0%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
