The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 28% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

In value terms, textile wadding exports totaled $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 17% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

Turkey prevails in exports structure, amounting to X tons, which was approx. 89% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by the United Arab Emirates (X tons), committing a 5.4% share of total exports. The following exporters - Lebanon (X tons) and Saudi Arabia (X tons) - each finished at a 3.8% share of total exports.

Exports from Turkey increased at an average annual rate of +5.8% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Lebanon (+21.0%) and the United Arab Emirates (+1.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Lebanon emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the Middle East, with a CAGR of +21.0% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Saudi Arabia (-14.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Turkey and Lebanon increased by +23 and +1.6 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest textile wadding supplier in the Middle East, comprising 80% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with an 11% share of total exports. It was followed by Lebanon, with a 4% share.

In Turkey, textile wadding exports expanded at an average annual rate of +5.7% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the United Arab Emirates (+22.9% per year) and Lebanon (+15.9% per year).

In 2021, the export price in the Middle East amounted to $X per ton, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. Total imports indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 23%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2020, and then shrank in the following year.

In value terms, textile wadding imports contracted to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +103.8% against 2012 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 29%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2020, and then shrank in the following year.

In 2021, Iran (X tons) and Turkey (X tons) were the largest importers of wadding of textile materials and articles thereof in the Middle East, together finishing at approx. 50% of total imports. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) held a 13% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Iraq (7.4%), Saudi Arabia (7.2%), Jordan (5.6%) and Lebanon (4.9%).
