Overall, exports posted a strong increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 78% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, walking-sticks and whips exports rose sharply to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +52.7% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 74% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Turkey represented the major exporter of walking-sticks, seat-sticks, whips and riding-crops in the Middle East, with the volume of exports accounting for X tons, which was approx. 63% of total exports in 2021. Jordan (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Syrian Arab Republic (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 33% share of total exports.

In value terms, Turkey ($X), Syrian Arab Republic ($X) and Jordan ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 85% share of total exports.

Syrian Arab Republic, with a CAGR of +35.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in the Middle East amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 4.5% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a pronounced decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 44%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Syrian Arab Republic ($X per ton), while Turkey ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 43% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, walking-sticks and whips imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports continue to indicate a mild increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 51% against the previous year.
