In 2022, the amount of waterproof footwear exported in the Middle East skyrocketed to X pairs, rising by 16% against 2021. Overall, exports continue to indicate prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 97%. The volume of export peaked at X pairs in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, waterproof footwear exports expanded modestly to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +14.7% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 34% against the previous year. Turkey represented the largest exporter of waterproof footwear in the Middle East, with the volume of exports accounting for X pairs, which was near 72% of total exports in 2022. Palestine (X pairs) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by the United Arab Emirates (X pairs) and Iran (X pairs). All these countries together took near 26% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to waterproof footwear exports from Turkey stood at +9.0%. At the same time, Iran (+11.0%) and the United Arab Emirates (+5.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Iran emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the Middle East, with a CAGR of +11.0% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Palestine (-1.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Turkey (+21 p.p.) and Iran (+1.9 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Palestine (-15.2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Palestine ($X) remains the largest waterproof footwear supplier in the Middle East, comprising 76% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Turkey ($X), with a 20% share of total exports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates, with a 2.3% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Palestine totaled +6.7%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Turkey (+6.9% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (+3.3% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in the Middle East amounted to $X per pair, falling by -11.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the export price increased by 38%. The level of export peaked at $X per pair in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Palestine ($X per pair), while Iran ($X per pair) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Palestine (+8.1%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in the Middle East
In 2022, approx. X pairs of waterproof footwear were imported in the Middle East; shrinking by -21.6% against the year before. Total imports indicated a tangible expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +40.4% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 84%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X pairs in 2021, and then reduced markedly in the following year.
In value terms, waterproof footwear imports fell dramatically to $X in 2022. In general, imports showed a pronounced slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 124%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
The purchases of the three major importers of waterproof footwear, namely the United Arab Emirates, Iraq and Israel, represented more than two-thirds of total import. Turkey (X pairs) took the next position in the ranking, followed by Yemen (X pairs). All these countries together held near 15% share of total imports. Kuwait (X pairs) and Lebanon (X pairs) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Iraq (with a CAGR of +24.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest waterproof footwear importing markets in the Middle East were Israel ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and Turkey ($X), together accounting for 72% of total imports.
Israel, with a CAGR of +24.2%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in the Middle East stood at $X per pair in 2022, reducing by -33.7% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a abrupt decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 an increase of 94% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per pair. From 2016 to 2022, the import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Israel ($X per pair), while Iraq ($X per pair) was amongst the lowest.
