Exports in the Middle East
In 2022, the amount of whole fresh milk exported in the Middle East expanded remarkably to X tons, growing by 15% on 2021 figures. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a deep setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by 17%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, whole fresh milk exports soared to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 21%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
In 2022, the United Arab Emirates (X tons), distantly followed by Turkey (X tons), Saudi Arabia (X tons), Iran (X tons) and Kuwait (X tons) were the largest exporters of whole fresh milk, together creating 90% of total exports. The following exporters - Bahrain (X tons) and Oman (X tons) - together made up 6.8% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Oman (with a CAGR of +64.8%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X), Saudi Arabia ($X) and Turkey ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, with a combined 71% share of total exports. Kuwait, Iran, Bahrain and Oman lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 26%.
Oman, with a CAGR of +53.9%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the export price in the Middle East amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 5.1% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a pronounced reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 an increase of 14% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kuwait ($X per ton), while Iran ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kuwait (+3.1%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

In 2022, whole fresh milk imports in the Middle East declined to X tons, with a decrease of -9.7% against 2021 figures. Over the period under review, imports recorded a abrupt decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 76% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, whole fresh milk imports dropped to $X in 2022. Overall, imports recorded a abrupt descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 70% against the previous year. In 2022, Oman (X tons), Yemen (X tons) and Iraq (X tons) was the key importer of whole fresh milk in the Middle East, constituting 65% of total import. It was distantly followed by the United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Jordan (X tons), together achieving a 24% share of total imports. The following importers - Qatar (X tons) and Kuwait (X tons) - each amounted to a 5.8% share of total imports.
