The Middle Eastern woven carpet market fell notably to $X in 2022, waning by -17.1% against the previous year. In general, consumption recorded a slight descent. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of the market remained at a lower figure.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 19%. The volume of export peaked at X square meters in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, woven carpet exports reduced to $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 20%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then fell in the following year.

Turkey dominates exports structure, amounting to X square meters, which was near 89% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Iran (X square meters), constituting a 9.8% share of total exports.

Exports from Turkey increased at an average annual rate of +5.4% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Iran (+6.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 42%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X square meters in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Turkey (X square meters) and Syrian Arab Republic (X square meters) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Syrian Arab Republic (with a CAGR of +31.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest woven carpet importing markets in the Middle East were the United Arab Emirates ($X), Iraq ($X) and Kuwait ($X), together accounting for 43% of total imports. Yemen, Iran, Turkey and Syrian Arab Republic lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 9.4%.

Syrian Arab Republic, with a CAGR of +27.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in the Middle East amounted to $X per square meter, surging by 2.1% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a noticeable curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 14% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per square meter in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Kuwait ($X per square meter), while Iran ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Yemen (-1.2%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
