Avocado Market Size in Morocco

After two years of growth, the Moroccan avocado market decreased by -50.1% to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, consumption continues to indicate a pronounced downturn. Avocado consumption peaked at $X in 2021, and then declined rapidly in the following year.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the countries with the highest prices were Germany ($X per ton) and the UK ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Spain ($X per ton) and the Netherlands ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+7.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Morocco

In 2022, the amount of avocados imported into Morocco reduced dramatically to X tons, declining by -19.6% compared with the previous year. In general, imports continue to indicate a mild contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 151% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, avocado imports dropped significantly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 68% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, Peru (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of avocado to Morocco, accounting for a 74% share of total imports. Moreover, avocado imports from Peru exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Spain (X tons), threefold.

In 2022, the average avocado import price amounted to $X per ton, waning by -12.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, enjoyed mild growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average import price increased by 61% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Kenya ($X per ton), while the price for Spain ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
